Self-Drive Car Rental Rules in Bhopal — What You Must Know Before Booking
If you are renting a self-drive car for the first time in Bhopal, here is a clear and complete guide to all the rules, documents, and policies you need to understand before you book.

1. Documents Required
You need to present all three at the time of vehicle pickup:
- Valid Driving Licence — must be at least 1 year old. Learner's licence not accepted.
- Government-issued Photo ID — Aadhaar card or passport. PAN card alone is not accepted.
- Booking Confirmation — your FS Car Rental booking reference, either digital or printed.
For outstation trips, carry a copy of your booking confirmation in the car. If stopped at a check-post, this helps confirm you are the authorised driver of a rented vehicle.
2. Minimum Age
You must be at least 22 years of age with a driving licence that is at least 1 year old. Students still enrolled in school (below 18) are not eligible regardless of age. There is no maximum age limit as long as you hold a valid licence.
3. Security Deposit
A refundable security deposit is collected at pickup. The amount depends on the car category:
| Car Category | Security Deposit |
|---|---|
| Hatchback (Swift, Fronx) | ₹2,000–₹2,500 |
| Compact SUV (Venue, Seltos) | ₹2,500–₹3,000 |
| SUV (Scorpio, Thar, XUV700) | ₹3,000–₹4,000 |
| Premium SUV / MPV (Fortuner, Innova) | ₹5,000 |
The deposit is returned within 24–48 hours after the vehicle is returned in the same condition as received, with the same fuel level.
4. Fuel Policy
Fuel is not included in the rental price. The vehicle is delivered at a specific fuel level — you must return it at the same level. If you return with less fuel, a top-up charge is applied based on the difference.
We recommend filling up before returning the car to avoid any surprises. For CNG vehicles like the Maruti Ertiga, both petrol and CNG levels are checked on return.
5. Outstation Rules
All daily, weekend, and monthly rentals allow outstation travel — anywhere in India. No extra permit is required. Just carry your driving licence and booking confirmation.
Hourly rentals are restricted to Bhopal city limits only — you cannot take an hourly rental to Sanchi, Ujjain, or any outstation destination.
6. Late Return Policy
A 1-hour grace period is allowed. If you return after the grace period, overtime charges are applied on a pro-rata hourly basis. If you need more time, call us at +91 88397 41090 before your scheduled return — we will accommodate extensions wherever possible.
7. Cancellation Policy
- Free cancellation — up to 6 hours before your scheduled pickup time.
- 50% charge — if you cancel within 6 hours of pickup.
- No-show — the full rental amount is charged if you do not arrive and do not cancel.
8. Insurance
All FS Car Rental vehicles carry comprehensive insurance. In the event of an accident, standard insurance terms apply. The renter is liable for the agreed deductible as per the policy. Call us immediately if any incident occurs — do not attempt to resolve it privately without informing FS Car Rental.
9. Payment Accepted
FS Car Rental accepts cash, UPI, and bank transfer. No credit card required. The security deposit can be paid via UPI at pickup.
